About the conference

Event on November 21, 22, 23 2023  

The inaugural conference of the Forests and Communities initiative will bring together renowned experts and scientists, including representatives of indigenous peoples and local communities, from all over the world, to provide insights into the conservation of rainforest ecosystems.

The theme of this first conference is "Inclusive conservation: indigenous peoples and local communities at the forefront of forest protection".

Three main topics will be addressed:

  • Effective forest conservation by Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities : Rights-based and Gender-Just approaches
  • The use of environmental law for forest conservation
  • Reconnecting national/international funding and governance to IPLCs for forest conservation

The conference will be held in English, with headphones available for translation into French and Spanish.   The conference will take place in person in Monaco on 21 (Grimaldi Forum), 22 and 23 (Novotel Monte Carlo) November 2023. The conference day on 22 November will be broadcast live on youtube.  There is no need to register to attend the event online. A link to the virtual stream will soon be available here.
